Annual Library Inventory
Every year it is important to complete inventory of our entire library collection. This year, inventory will be held during the week of January 26-30, 2015. Your students will still attend rotation with Ms. Glenn, but Mrs. Hensley will be scanning each and every item in our collection (which numbers just over 16, 000 items).
There will be NO BOOK CHECK IN OR BOOK CHECK OUT during this time. Your students can keep the books they have or they can exchange them BEFORE January 26th. Just send them down on a pass 3 or 4 at a time.

YOU HAVE BEEN CHALLENGED!
Information Literacy Specialists throughout Aldine have been reading Donalyn Miller's book, Reading In The Wild. A "wild reader" is one who reads a variety of texts and branches out of his/her comfort zone. I examined my reading over the past years and found it fraught with romance novels and science fiction. So in my effort to become a "wilder reader", I found the 2015 Reading Challenge.
The challenge is based on categories of books, not a list of books. You get to choose your own book instead of being told what to read. Some of the categories take a little research. For example, read a book from the year your were born, or read a book from an author with your same initials. After you have read a book, be sure to use the 2015 Reading Challenge Pinterest board to post about the book. It can be a picture, a review, or something of your choice. If you want access to post, join Pinterest and email me with your Pinterest name. I'll add you. I will have a drawing at the end of the year for a Barnes and Noble gift card!
Your students have a pared down challenge, but I would like those interested to give it a try. I will help them find book matches. They will keep track on their challenge sheet and return it to the library when each book is read. They will have a short, but fun, activity to complete. We will display them on the library window. If you want to take a selfie of you and your book, email me the picture and I will post in on the library window, too!
Let's all take the challenge and become "WILD READERS!"
