Technology Ideas & Tips
How are you using technology in your classroom? Using a projector and a computer is not an integrated way to use technology to further the education of our 21st century learners. Here are some links and tips to assist with stepping up our use of technology!
TCCA 2012
The Technology and Curriculum Conference of Aldine (TCCA) was held on Saturday, October 20, 2012. It was an all day event that was full of great information and discussions on how to integrate technology into our classrooms. There were some discussions on various devices that can be used in our classrooms-including BYOD (bring your own device). That includes iPads, iPods, tablets, and cell phones. The keynote speaker, Leslie Fisher, is a leader in educational technology and had much to say on the subject of cell phone use for educational purposes. Check out her website for more information: http://lesliefisher.com/
Make plans to attend next year. It was free to Aldine employees and there were door prizes. Just ask Mrs. Kroll!
A big thank you goes out to Mardee Barnett, Technology Services and the Technology Specialists. It was an inspiring conference that will definitely benefit the students and staff of Aldine ISD. Whoot!

Favorite Websites and Apps
Here are some favorite websites and apps I use or learned about at TCCA.
Websites:
Kathy Schrock--everything about instructional technology http://www.schrockguide.net/
Class Dojo--track student behaviors in a fun, visual way
http://www.classdojo.com
Apps:
Storylines--Students can work in a group to create a story. A great app for long car trips, too!
Evernote--A way to keep track of all your notes and ideas and sync on various devices. Happens to be blocked at the moment on district computers, however it works great on my phone. Look for the free app on iTunes and on the web.

Download/Apps:
Dropbox--This is a combined download and app that can be installed on any computer you own as well as on your smartphone. The dropbox saves documents and pictures to the cloud. Put in the dropbox at home and you can view it on your smartphone or on your work computer. This saves me from running around trying to keep up with my jump drive and realizing it has gone through the wash, again!
If you want to know more about any of the exciting technology I learned about, come see me. I'd love to chat and you can share some of your discoveries with me!
