Come visit the Story Laboratory! February 22-March 1, 2013
Be sure to support Calvert's Spring Book Fair! There will be teacher contests, student contests and coin collecting for All for Books. Listen to the announcements and stop by the library to find out about the daily activities. All prizes are new books!
During Preview Day (Friday, February 22) bring your students by to look at all the new books. You can even bring your smartphone and scan the books that have QR code with them--it takes you to booktalks about some of the featured books. Also, have your students bring a pencil and complete the scavenger hunt--be a detective to find great books!

Celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss' Birthday (March 1st)
We are going to celebrate this wonderful day with guest readers for grades K-2. They are a group of retired teachers who would like to come read a Dr. Seuss story to your students. Sign up with Mrs. Hensley, so you can be put on the schedule. These ladies are bringing a beautiful quilt to display and about 150 donated books to be given to all grade levels.
We are going to create a literacy quilt to celebrate our love of reading. Your students can write and draw on a quilt square. They can pick their favorite book to show how much they love to read.
The quilt squares will be provided and all entries are due by Wednesday, March 6 to the LMC. The students who have their quilt square displayed will be given a choice of a free book. Good luck. I can't wait to see the books that Calvert students love the most!

Ready. . Set. . .Read
It's time to refresh parts of our library. Our library, along with all the other campuses in Aldine, have been given monies to refresh our books by purchasing quality materials for our students. I am also charged to weed our collection, which means getting rid of outdated titles as well as books in desperate need of replacement. This is a wonderful opportunity, but will require lots of work to get it done by the March 28th deadline.
If you have any suggestions on materials that you would like to see added to our library, please email me or write me a note. I would love your input, especially about social studies and science topics. These books will be for student checkout. No magazines, professional materials, or class sets will be purchased.
A student survey will also be given the week before Spring Break. I want to know what our kids want to check out and read!
